** Macy **

Macy has made a smooth transition to her new forever home in Buffalo, NY. This intelligent, communicative, observant, energetic, appreciative loving creature selected her forever parents at a BrightStar event. Macy has Dan, a lawyer, and Audrey, a teacher, all to herself. All three kindred spirits love to hike and picnic along the Niagara River walk. The family philosophy is to channel the canine spirit. Macy spends her active days doing her job of window watching in a huge house, getting brushed, curled up on rugs, giving great kisses, going on long walks, and greeting children. She gets daily rides in the back of the van, which is customized to fit her travel needs.
Future plans include more obedience classes, visiting more relatives, and camping. Macy gives a 4-paw salute to BrightStar German Shepherd Rescue and her BuffaloCAN foster mom Carol for giving her a chance at a wonderful life.

| **Cinder**

It's been a year yesterday (8/7/04) that Cinder has come into our lives. I can't tell you how much joy and happiness she has brought us. To celebrate her one year anniversary with us, we had a doggy barbecue for her and her friends. All the dogs in attendance got steaks, while the humans had to settle for hamburgers and hot dogs. I can't tell you how many people told me I was nuts! Anyway, here is a recent picture of her. Thanks again for everything you have done.

| **Bootes**

Bootes is pictured here at his new home. Wow, look at him, he looks so happy!
(What a Great picture!)

| **Patrick**

From Patrick's new Mom: "Here is BrightStar's Patrick, on the left, with his playmate Xoe. We adopted Patrick in April and there are no words to tell how much joy he brings to our lives every day. He is loving, loyal, handsome and smart! We had reservations about getting another dog, but he and Xoe get along famously, and help each other out in wonderful ways. He enriches our lives so very much too, and we can't imagine life without him. Patrick was a star of his beginning obedience class in the Spring, and this Fall we are going for our Canine Good Citizen title. We are forever grateful to BrightStar for making it possible for us to have Patrick in our family."

| **Jake**

Jake (aka Stryker). He's a very welcomed addition to our home. While we're sure he misses Ruth and her family, he has settled in nicely with us. He is truly so beautiful, so playful and so very alert and intelligent. He obeys the basic commands of sit, lay down, wait. He loves his mealtime and also enjoys playing with his soft toys. He's doing very nicely going for walks in the neighborhood and at the park. We've had a few friends over to visit, and his interactions were very positive, including those with our friend's dogs. He's sweet and affectionate and likes to be around people. He appears happy in his new home!

| **Elka**

Elka was seized by Buffalo Animal Control as a stray and then transferred into BrightStar in April 2003. BrightStar was in need of a foster for a female shepherd and I offered to foster her. I was not expecting though what I received. When Elka first came home with me she was very shy and scared. The littliest movement would send her into a panic and she would hide. It took many weeks for Elka to come out from behind the couch or her crate. She slowly began to have trust in me that I wasn't not going to hurt her. Throughout the first few months of fostering her - it was noticeable that she had a fear of men and was a very unsure little pup. It became obvious due to her reactions to situations that Elka had been neglected and possibly abused in some way. But with her being so young I was not willing to give up on her. Many families that would visit with her overlooked her as a potentional new family member due to the amount of rehabilitating Elka would need. I decided after having her in foster care for six months that she was not going to be able to be adoptable any time soon and requested to adopt her myself. I felt with adopting her out it would only set her back and it would not be fair to her. She has bonded with myself and one of my other dogs very well but her other two doggy siblings - there is a bit of bickering. She has come a very long way since the day we met. When the Elkster is with her people she will show you her happiness with her goofy ways and her kissess and cuddling... She is one of those dogs that can always make you laugh just because of the way she acts...There is rarely a dull moment when Elka is at home. She isn't the brightest girl and still has some issues but I wouldn't giver her up for anything... She has now learned what it is to be a dog - and how it feels to be loved.

| **Emma**

Emma is one lucky girl and so is her new family!
"Emma (aka 'Dafne') is doing wonderful in her new home. She enjoys the company of Puppy, her shih tzu friend, and loves being part of the family. We couldn't have asked for a better dog either. Emma has wonderful house manners and has already settled in to her new life. It is like she has been a part of our lives for years. We are all so pleased with her and she looks great too! She was a birthday present for Tommy, pictured with Emma, and he wouldn't trade her for anything, and I think she feels the same. We would like to thank BrightStar for saving this beauty as she fits so well with us."

| **Brita & Bobo**

This is what their Dad Mark has to say about Brita (L) and Bobo (R): "Everyday, with these two is just a joy, they are so full of life. They are doing just great and are enjoying life to the fullest. I thought that once my children grew up, and were on their own, I was done, but how wrong I was, I have two more fur baby children."

| **J-R**

"J-R has just adjusted beautifully. He is so well behaved. J-R must have some music in his genes. We have discovered that he loves music. ...you would not believe how he sings. When the boys practice on either the bass or piano [or cello], he just howls along. It is really comical as he is somewhat out of tune.
The boys discovered that our backyard pine tree dropped a very large amount of needles in our backyard. Well, of course the boys just couldn't pass up an opportunity to get down and dirty and were burying themselves ...J-R would then 'dig' them out and chase them. They had a riot.
We are truly very happy and love him very much. I still can't believe how wonderfully J-R has fit right in." The Alessi Family
