The Second Chance.
Standing huddled in the corner,
There are tear stains on my face,
I am shivering and lonely,
And have become a basket case...
That last place that I lived at,
It was dirty and quite dark,
But I would still stand watch all night long,
and alert my family with my bark.
But then one day, they took me out,
for a short trip in the car.
I was so excited!
But they didn't take me very far...
They left me on the side of the road,
and swiftly drove away.
I scrounged around for food,
but it seems I was always in the way.
People yelled and cursed at me,
I just didn't understand,
They said that I looked vicious,
Even after I'd licked their hand.
I only wanted to please someone,
To have them pat my head,
But after all that I've been through,
Now I just wish I was dead.
But wait! Look at that family!
Oh that little girl is sweet...
I pick up the rag I've been playing with.
and lay it at her feet.
I can't contain my excitement!
My tail's never wagged so hard!
I heard them say "We'll take him"
And they filled out my adoption card.
I just can't believe how this turned out,
I was sure it was over for me,
But this wonderful family gave me a chance -
To show them how great I can be!
Even though my ears don't stand up quite straight,
The one is always flopped over my head
My new family shows how much they love me...
They even let me sleep on the bed!!
