|
(Last Update 05-10-08)
|
Fauna was picked up as a stray so we have very little history on her. She is about 3 to 4 years old and quite full of herself. It is obvious that at sometime in her life someone loved her. She is a great girl to be around and not the clingy type. At first she is rather aloof but warms up quickly.
She is crated trained but a crate is not really necessary. She has great house manners.
Fauna is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, and micro chipped.

This pet is eligible for a gift of the first month of ShelterCare pet insurance paid for by BrightStar German Shepherd Dog Rescue. For more information on pet insurance please visit us online at http://www.sheltercare.com or call 1-866-375-PETS.

Rowan
Adopted!
(Rochester Area)
|
|
|
|
(Last Update 05-10-08)
|
 |
Meet Rowan! She is a 1 ½ year old female Belgian Malinois mix. Rowan was a stray found in TN and was skin and bones. Her first visit to the vet she weighed 31.5 pounds. She is now about 68.5 pounds.
Rowan is very intelligent and would do very well at obedience or agility. She has leaned the commands "sit" and "down" and we are working on others. She listens well and learns quickly.
She is a very sweet girl and bonds quickly. Since Rowan has been with me, she has really come out of her shell. She is such a sweetie and loves to give kisses. Snuggling is now a thing she likes to do as well.
Rowan is a little skeptical at first around men she doesn’t know. It takes her a minute to warm up and then she is fine. She is also a little skittish when you make loud noises or quick movements. I believe this behavior is because she was abused.
She has a lot of energy as she is young, so she needs play time outside. Once she runs and plays, she settles down nicely in the house. She loves to go for car rides and does very well in the car. She lies down in the back seat and you don’t even know she is there.
Rowan gets along will all dogs. She lives with 3 ranging from 30-50 pounds and she has no issues. Her and Rowan love to run and play together in the back yard.
She also lives with 3 cats. She wouldn't do anything intentional to hurt them, but she does play and chase them.
She is definitely ready for her forever home!
Rowan is spayed, micro chipped, up to date on shots, house broken, and crate trained.
This pet is eligible for a gift of the first month of ShelterCare pet insurance paid for by BrightStar German Shepherd Dog Rescue. For more information on pet insurance please visit us online at http://www.sheltercare.com or call 1-866-375-PETS.

(Last Update 04-17-08)
|
Hi - my name is Aspen. I am a 75 lb. silver and black German Shepherd Dog and the vet thinks I'm about 7-9 years old. Don't let my age fool you, though, I am still playful and fun. I'm low-energy in the house, but outside I like to play fetch, swim, play in the snow and run.
I have such good house manners and I always tell my family when I need to go out for potty. They are helping me learn that the crate is an okay place to be. As long as I have things to keep me busy in there I do pretty well. I'm a good girl on my walks, too. I love to be outside and see and smell the world. I am very interested in the little critters I see, so I need to have a fence in the backyard to keep me safe. Also, they tell me I have something called a high prey drive so I definitely need a home without cats!
A little while ago I went to the vet and they told me I have something called hip dysplasia. No wonder my back end hurt! But, with a daily medicine and supplement, I'm good to go. My foster mom says I need to take it every day and go to the vet for check ups. I don't like to go up or down more than three or four stairs, so I'd love to go to a home where I could stay on the first floor.
I can get along with other dogs, but if I can't be an only pet, I need a mellow dog who won't get in my face or be rambunctious. You see, I don't want anyone jumping on me or bugging me to play all the time. I live with two kids that are older and I think that's just fine, but I don't want to have little kids poking me or bugging me a lot.
My foster mom says I am so sweet and loyal. I like to tell her about my day and keep the house safe. What a good watchdog I am! I can do sit, shake, down, stay, leave it and I'd love to learn more obedience. I want to please so much and I love doing things with the people around me. Please take me home and let me be a part of your life forever. I will share my big heart with you and make you so happy!

 |
Meet Gracie! She is a 1 1/2 year old female German Shepherd Dog and weighs about 60 pounds. She was a stray and pulled from the Tonawanda SPCA.
Gracie is a sweetheart, she loves to just lay on your lap and cuddle. She is easy to train.
She is a bit bossy with other dogs. I would prefer her to go to a home where she is the only dog or to a home with a male dog.
I don't know how she acts with cats or children. I do remember her being just fine with any children that approached her from the meet and greets.
Gracie is spayed, up to date on shots and house broken.

Gizmo

(Last Update 02-23-08)
|
Introducing Gizmo! She's a medium sized German Sheperd Dog mix, about 2 yrs old, very sweet & petite girl. She was found as a stray & looks to have had at least one litter of puppies. Gizmo, her face reminded us of the movie Gremlins, is a loving dog, always looking for attention. She gets along great with my 4yr old & is always close by ready to sniff & kiss at every opportunity. She's good with other dogs, once dominance is established; she likes to be in be the one to try to test the other dog's personality. She barks when she hears any type of noise until she is accustomed to hearing the same noises.
Gizmo sleeps in our bedroom with us & allowed to roam the house when we are home. She loves to go on car rides & loves to meet new people. She has shown no food or toy aggression & I put her to the test continuously.
Do you think you could find it in your heart & home to give Gizmo a new life with a family that would cherish her?
Gizmo is up-to-date on all her shots, spayed, & heart worm negative. She is also crate trained & house trained. I would recommend that she be crated during the hours of work in a Vari Kennel as she can be mischievous when not watched.

Maddy
Available for Adoption
(Rochester Area)

(Last Update 04-15-08)
|
 |
Hello, my name is Maddy. I am 1 ½ year old female German Shepherd Dog. I just arrived last weekend (2/3) from Ohio. I was picked up as a stray so not much is known about my past. If I could only figure out how to talk, I would share. Oh well, at least my future looks bright and happy and I am looking forward to my forever home. I am settling in well in my foster home.
I am currently living with four other dogs and I am getting along well with all of them. We also have cats at my foster home, which I am doing well with too. They do interest me but I just like to watch them. It is fun to chase them if they run though.
I really like everyone that I have met so far, even kids. I am crate trained and am very quiet. I am working on my basic commands although I think that I already know the word sit, especially for a treat.
My foster mom says that I still need to get spayed and then I will be available for adoption.
02/19/08 Update: Maddy was spayed last Tuesday and is recovering well. While in surgery the vet found that perhaps Maddy had been hit by a car at one point, but had not been taken to a vet. Maddy has a broken pelvis which is completly healed now, but not quite in alignment. She also has mild hip dysplasia, a condition present in many German Shepherds. Neither of these conditions bother her at this point in her life. I was quite surprised to hear of this as you would never know by the way she runs and plays.
Maddy would do best with a daily joint supplement, which she has already started, and continued exercise to keep her muscles strong and in shape. In the long run these conditions may cause her arthritis.
Maddy is looking for a very special family that can look past her shortfalls and see her for the wonderful dog that she is.
03/11/08 Update: Maddy is continuing to do well in her foster home. She is a very sweet girl who seems to love everyone and anything. She loves to go for walks and rides well in the car. Maddy loves to play and wrestle with two of her foster brothers. She has even taught my other shepherd how to play, which wasn't easy.
Maddy is very good off leash, always checking in every once in awhile to see what I am doing. She is just a very good all around dog and is very quiet. I would love to see her get her very own forever home soon.
Maddy is spayed, up to date on all her vaccinations, micro chipped, and house broken.
This pet is eligible for a gift of the first month of ShelterCare pet insurance paid for by BrightStar German Shepherd Dog Rescue. For more information on pet insurance please visit us online at http://www.sheltercare.com or call 1-866-375-PETS.
Please email my foster mom Katie if you would like to meet me: princeton8@aol.com . |
My Name is Hannah........... A lot of people call me the Mega E Puppy, I was convinced that was my name.... but My Name is Hannah. My foster mom named me Hannah. When I am acting silly, she calls me Hannah Banana...we giggle about that.
02/09/08 Incoming:
I am a 14 week old, adorable purebred German Shepherd Dog puppy. I was surrendered to a shelter in Ohio by my owners. I was purchased from a breeder. My owners didn't know how to help me with my condition, so they took me to the shelter. It was pretty loud and scary. Dogs crying, dogs barking, dogs scared (I have to admit that I was scared too!!!).
I am told that my sister arrived at the shelter two weeks before me. They said it was 'too late' for her, she had a severe case of aspiration pneumonia, she passed on her own to the Rainbow Bridge. If the Rainbow Bridge is as nice as my foster home, she must be in HEAVEN. Rest In Peace Little Hannah's Sister and run free.
Hannah is a Special Girl with a Lifetime Ahead of her. She is affectionate, intelligent, playful, sweet. Hannah just adores my two dogs. They are teaching her 'puppy etiquette'. Hannah is potty trained and learning her basic commands. She will EXCEL at obedience training.
____________________________________________________________
Now that you know a bit about me - please read on to learn a bit about Megaesophagus
What is Megaesophagus ('Mega-E')?
Mega-E by Definition[1]: Mega ('enlarged') esophagus is actually a collective term used to describe several esophageal disorders & malformations, but yes, it does mean enlarged. As well as the 'mega' enlargement (dilation), the esophagus typically is lacking normal peristaltic ('waves of muscular contraction') function, thus becoming an inert tube, unable to propel ('motility disorder') food to the stomach. In essence, the esophagus is paralyzed ('vagal afferent innervation') to a varying degree. Food and/or liquid can thus remain in the esophagus-- sometimes minutes, sometimes hours, or yes -- even days.
Regurgitation may be the first sign you notice. Either food or water, sometimes both, may be regurgitated. Regurge is a 'passive' act - the stomach muscles typically do not contract or heave. The food brought up by regurgitation is usually undigested, may have a tubular shape, and is often covered with a slimy mucous. He/she will often try to eat the regurgitated material.
[1] What is Canine Megaesophagus http://www.caninemegaesophagus.org/What_is_MegaEsophagus.html
_________________________________________________________________________________
04/13/08 Update: Hannah is now spayed. She handled her surgery like a champ and is on the mend. Now Hannah is in search of that special family that can commit their lives to her in exchange for one wonderful girl.
I know people are 'scared' to commit to a special needs pup/dog like Hannah. Please don't be afraid to ask questions about this wonderful girl and her Mega E condition. If there is anything to be learned from my experience fostering Hannah, it would be that a diagnosis of Megaesophagus is NOT a hopeless situation. Hannah is a precious, outgoing, curious, confident young pup with MANY loving years of life ahead of her. Managing her feedings and care is a small price to pay for what Hannah brings to my life. She is a constant, loyal companion with a zest for life.
Hannah enjoys going for her two walks a day along with my two dogs. She runs around the backyard, chasing my two dogs, running like the wind. Hannah loves fetching the tennis ball, laying in the grass on a warm sunny day.
You see, she is not much different than my two dogs. Hannah eats her food elevated and will go to a sit position for 5 - 10 minutes after eating.
Hannah would love a family that will cherish her for all she is. In fact you may find you will get more than you will ever give to Hannah.
05/05/08 Update: I Have a Wonderful Update on Hannah. She is now 6 months old and 35 lbs. At maturity, she should reach 60 - 65 lbs. The BEST news is that she is now on a different diet and is doing PHENOMINAL. Hannah is on Wellness Fish and Sweet Potato Dry Food. I soak it in water overnight. She has not regurged in over 2 weeks...That is HUGE !! She eats her food elevated and then goes into a sit position for 5 - 10 minutes. I make sure that she "lays low" for about 1/2 hour, then she is free to run around the fenced backyard with her playmates.
There are cases in which the dog "outgrows" the Mega E condition. I am not sure at this point, but Hannah's Progress and her ability to keep ALL her food down is encouraging.
This pet is eligible for a gift of the first month of ShelterCare pet insurance paid for by BrightStar German Shepherd Dog Rescue. For more information on pet insurance please visit us online at http://www.sheltercare.com or call 1-866-375-PETS.
Hugs from Hannah who is Living Life to its Fullest.

(Last Update 04-29-08)
|
Meet Maggie. She is a 2 year old Sable German Shepherd Dog. Maggie is a petite girl weighing about 60 pounds. She is so sweet and will bond rather quickly with her new family.
When I first got Maggie she did not like her tail and back legs touched. I have been working with her and she now lets me touch all of her tail, her back legs are a work in progress. I am sure with just a little bit of time she will not mind her back legs being touched either.
Maggie is very good with my male dogs, I have not tested her yet with my female dogs. This is one smart cookie, she knows how to sit, stay and shake. She is a quick learner.
She will need a confident handler that will give her direction.
Maggie is spayed, microchipped and up to date on all her vaccinations.

(Last Update 03-31-08)
|
Meet Macey. She is a 1 year old female German Shepherd Dog.
Macey is a very tall girl. She is on the slimmer side, but I am sure she will fill out more as she gets older.
She has a lot of energy and loves to play. Being in a home with four other dogs is like living at doggie day camp for her.
Macey will need to go to a home with another dog(s) and to an experienced handler. She needs a leader.
Macey is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations and heart worm negative.
More on Macey as I get to know her better.
03/31/08 Update: Macey has turned out to be a wonderful dog. Just don't tell her she is a dog, she has no idea that she isn't human. Macey is housebroke & crate trained. She does extremely well with other dogs; large and small.
I would recommend her only going to a home that already has a dog as she has very little confidence and self esteem by herself. You put her with another dog and she is ready to take on the world!!
She does have manners and can be trusted to roam free in the house when nobody is home. She is very curious and will jump up to "inspect" new things. She does great with kids and my cat.

Kora
Under Evaluation
(Buffalo Area)

|
|
(Last Update 04-19-08)
|
Meet Kora - She is a beautiful dark sable female German Shepherd Dog that came from a gas chamber shelter in Georgia but is now living the high life in Western New York and loving the snow! She is approximately 18 months old and 70lbs.
Kora LOVES people! She currently lives in my house with another dog and 2 cats and gets along nicely with them now. I would recommend her new family have experience introducing cats & dogs together, if they have them. She can "resource guard" her owner when another dog or cat approaches, but she is getting better. She does sleep in bed all night with all of them, so she's accomplished a lot so far! She does not tolerate strange dogs rushing up to her and getting in her face, but is fine with my dog now.
I am unsure how she would be with young children, though I see no issues as she is very sweet.
Kora is very intelligent and knew the word "no" from the beginning. She is not stubborn at all and listens right away. You can tell that all she wants is someone to love and please. She is a bit of a velcro dog and always sticks by her person inside the house. She can be destructive, so a crate is highly recommended when her owner isn't home.
She has a high ball drive and would be excellent with an active family. She will need some kind of activity, though doesn't mind being a couch potato sometimes. A nice confidence building activity, such as agility would suit her nicely.
She is an absolute doll, and has adjusted very well to my home. In less than a week, she is reasonably trustworthy around the other dog and cats, but is still supervised. She has learned to do stairs and also walks nicely on leash.
She doesn't mind any part of her body touched and likes to be brushed and loves any kind of attention anyone gives her.
If she is adopted near the Lockport, New York area, I will be willing to assist her new family with obedience training and continued support with any questions they may have. I also have contacts in the area for obedience training or agility training if interested.
Kora is up to date on all her shots. She will be spayed soon.
More updates as I get to know her better.

Pascha
Available for Adoption
(Utica Area)
|
|
|
|
(Last Update 05-01-08)
|
Pascha is a one year old Sheltie/German Shepherd Dog mix that just arrived from Tennessee! She has been with us for just a couple days, but already has charmed everyone she has met, from my family to people at the pet store!
She is a dainty little girl, weighing about 26 pounds right now. She needs to gain a few pounds but will not be a big girl as she isnt going to grow much taller than she is now.
Pascha loves other dogs but when trying to play with the "big kids" she at times gets a little timid and runs back to me for a moment of security and then runs back and tries to play some more.
She is extremely sweet, she really enjoys being around people and especially seems to adore children and loves attention from them. She is around 4 children during the day, ages 2 through 5, and is as gentle as can be with them.
Pascha is still young and very playful and acts as if she has struck gold when she gets a shoe and takes off with it- it is very cute to watch. If you say "drop it!" she does so and comes up to give kisses. She sits nicely for a treat and takes it very gentle from us.
She is housebroke but we do crate her at night and when we leave, not only for her security but because young dogs can be a bit mischievious when bored and unsupervised. She is not destructive, but likes to bring you little trinkets she finds around the house.
Pascha is a doll. There is a ton of personality packed into this little girl!!
More on Pascha as we get to know her!
05/01/08 Update: Pascha has recovered from her spay, and had a B-B removed from her ear while in surgery. At some point in her life, she had been shot with a BB gun and the skin had grown around it, but it is now out and healed up nicely.
Pascha is a spunky little girl when feeling safe and secure in a home, and has gained some confidence since she has been here. I don't think she realizes she isn't 75 pounds, and will think nothing of letting the other dogs know exactly how she feels when they try to take her toys.
She isnt aggressive - but will bark at them, pick up her toy, and walk away. My GSD's just stare at her- as if in amazement that they were just "told off" by something so little, its amusing to watch.
Pascha is getting better with her chewing in front of us, however, if she finds something of interest and thinks she can "hide out" and chew on it, she will - mainly my daughters toys! Oh, and she loves toys - where ever Pascha is, there is a toy or two! When my husband comes home from work, she will run up to him, give a bark, and then try to get the back of his shoe, which she can barely get her mouth on, but we have been telling her "leave it" which she does.
She is such a sweet girl, she loves to cuddle next to me at night while watching tv, go for car rides, and walks. She is a a happy, playful girl who loves to be around her pack.
Pascha is up to date on shots and microchipped.

She also gets along great with my other dogs & my cat. She is great with little kids and is very gentle. She does get a little rambunctious when she is playing with other dogs but once you tell her to settle she usually does.
She absolutely loves to go for rides in the car. Mya would be a great dog for taking long walks or just laying by your feet chewing a bone. As long as she is with her person/persons she is happy.

This beautiful girl is Kali. Kali came to BrightsSar with her sister Mya (above). Kali is a 2 year old female German Shepherd Dog mix.
Kali gets along great with other dogs & my cat. Kali has very little self esteem and gets scared very easily. When she is out and about on walks and for car rides you would never know she is scared. It's when people come up to her that she gets a little shy. She doesn't get mean she just puts her head down and her tail between her legs. But after a few minutes she will warm up to you and be fine.
Kali needs to go to a very loving and understanding home. She will make a great pet for the right person.

Hi, my name is Celina. I am a black German Shephed Dog who is 8 months to 1year old. I arrived from Ohio on 03/30/08 where I was picked up as a stray, but now I am ready for a bright new future.
Everyone who meets me says I am the sweetest, prettiest little girl. Can I give you kisses?
If you ask I will sit, stay and shake; I also know down. I walk great on a leash.
My foster mom calls me her little love bug; I love to cuddle. She says I could melt an iceberg with me sweet eyes.
I love to play with my foster brother and sister and give them lots of kisses. Even the kitties, but they don't like all my kisses

|
Meet Elle! She is a 4 year old big beautiful sable German Shepherd Dog. She's very playful and loves her Frisbee, she likes to carry it with her!!
Elle has very nice house manners, listens well and knows many commands. She is house-broken, crate-trained (although does not need it, prefers dog bed), and good on leash. Elle is very smart.
Elle seems to be accepting the cats just fine, however she does not like the company of smaller female dogs. Elle was used to being in a home by herself, an "only child" but I think she could adjust to a home with large male dogs, especially an easy-going one. She needs to go to a family with GSD experience.
Many children came over to pet Elle at meet and greet and she did very well, although I do not beleive she has a lot of experience with them.
Elle is spayed, micro-chipped, HW- and up to date on her shots.

Laurel is spayed, micro-chipped and up to date on her shots. However she is Light Heartworm positive. She has already begun treatment and will be ready for her forever home upon completion.

Sheba

(Last Update 04-11-08)
|
This is Sheba. She is a 7-8 year old Shiloh Shepherd and is just about ready for her forever home. Her background wasn't pleasant but it does account for who she is now. A little bit about her past: Sheba was born on an exotic farm somewhere in Buffalo where she spent her first 4 years living in a cage. This may account for her small size as Shiloh's are usually taller and weigh more. This also accounts for her fears. Living in a cage doesn't give you much chance to see the world and experience all the sights and sounds that are so important. These were the most important social years of her life and she missed out on them. Sheba was then rescued by a nice lady and her family. They gave her all the love and attention she so deserved. Sheba spent 3 ½ years with this wonderful family until her mom fell ill with a terminal illness. Knowing she wouldn't out live Sheba she asked BrightStar to find her a new wonderful family. Two weeks into our program Sheba was adopted. Unfortunately, they returned her after only 4 months. We were told that Sheba was sad and depressed and just laid around all the time. Sheba had just lost the only home where she knew love for the first time in her life. Of course, she is sad. Wouldn't you be sad if your mom got sick and couldn't spend any more time with you? So now Sheba felt so lost and really needed someone special to show her love and teach her to trust again. A new foster home and a special dog is just what BrightStar ordered. In comes Cody, the 'Butthead' dog. He is over socialized, loves to play and can be very therapeutic when needed. So Sheba's days of being sad lasted exactly 24 hours. She has been to an indoor basic obedience class and did very well. After the first couple of weeks she walked thru the door without stopping and would go and visit the people who were already there. By the end of 5 weeks everyone had to stop and say goodbye to her and give her pats on the head. Since then Sheba has just blossomed. I never get out of the house without a dog and taking Sheba is no exception. She follows Cody all over the yard and even has initiated play with him. Any place I can take dogs we go. From the Tractor Supply to our local Tweeter Feeders, Sheba goes everywhere. Louise, the owner of Tweeter Feeders, always makes sure she has Sheba's favorite snack on hand, chicken strips. Sheba loves other kinds of healthy treats but when we are out in public the only treat she will take from anyone are chicken strips.
I have enrolled her in another basic obedience class but this one is an outdoor class. This should really help with her social skills as well as help build her confidence. Due to this Sheba will stay with me at least thru the month of May. I am also giving her Flower Essences in her drinking water. It is just something additional to help build her confidence and is working wonderfully.
Now let's look past her beauty and take a look at the real Sheba. She has fears. Sometimes they may seem weird but to her they are real and you need to understand how these affect her behavior. Indoors, loud noises will send her running to a room where she feels safer. For example, I have a glass cutting board. As soon as the knife hits the board the noise sends her running into another room. As long as she hears that noise she will not come out. If there is a ceiling fan and it is on Sheba is actually paralyzed with fear. It will take many days, sometimes weeks of coaxing to get her to just walk into that room again. Last night we decided to BBQ. The grill was 3 feet from the front steps and I literally had to drag her out to go potty. Then she sat in the side yard where she could se me but would not come near me. Once the grill was put away she came back into the house.
Sheba needs to be brushed regularly. She doesn't like her hips touched very much so you have to brush her sections. I'll do her side then go to her hips. When she starts to give me the look I'll go and brush her legs then go back to her hips. I just keep doing this until she is completely brushed. Chicken strips help out a lot here too. Sheba LOVES her prong collar. She becomes this animated dog who you can't get a prong on fast enough. She barks to let you know you are moving too slow. She loves to go places as long as she stays in the car. That is her safe place. If it is a place that dogs are allowed she can't stay in the car. I make her go in and gently try to work her thru her fears. I always carry chicken strips with me to help. She enjoys her walks but sometimes a person walking up to her or hearing a bunch of dogs barking makes her afraid. I constantly watch her body language. I always try to make sure Sheba is in a win-win situation. You have to understand that Sheba will never be a normal easy going dog. She has fears from the life she was forced to endure. She has come a long way and has potential but more than likely her new family will be altering their life style to accommodate her issues. Sheba doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She is the most loyal and loving dog I have ever fostered. With this in mind this is the kind of home that she would do best in. There should be another dog there. It should be a dog that is well trained but is confident and wants a companion as Sheba will follow the lead of this dog. An older couple would be ideal or possibly someone who works from home.
Sheba loves kids but if they become loud or rowdy she becomes afraid. A soft spoken voice works better for her but once in a while she does need a 'bad mommy voice' as she has a stubborn streak. Sheba lives with cats and is very respectful of them. I also dog sit in my house and she does fine with dogs coming and going.
Sheba is spayed, up to date with her shots, micro-chipped and on heart worm preventative.

Meet Hope. She is a beautiful 2 year old sable female German Shepherd Dog. Hope made a long journey up here from Kentucky where she has many fans who helped save her from a high kill shelter and get her into BrightStar! After being dumped, and spending so much time with people she didn't know and having no idea what was going on, you would think she'd be a bit shy and need some time to come around. This was not the case with Hope. This girl loves everyone and everything. I cannot say enough about her and I cannot say anything bad about her! She has been awesome in her foster home since day one. I figured she'd need some re- fresheners on house manners, but she was house broken from day one, crates awesome and quietly all night, and is happy just lounging around the house with her family and canine friends. She loves to play and keeps my pack young with her playfulness! She would love a canine companion in her new home.
However she will not go to a home with cats, though she has not hurt any of mine nor shown me that she might, she has a very strong urge to chase them all the time.
I have not seen Hope around children but I feel she would be just fine with them as she has a very loving nature. She is also very submissive (mostly when she knows she's doing something wrong and is told no). She is eager to please and has been easy to train with some of the basics I have been teaching her.
She is very energetic and needs an active family who will take her out for walks, runs, hikes, whatever your outdoor pleasure is, she would love to join you! And if it involves mud, she will enjoy it even more! She is not a girly girl, she loves to get down and dirty! She would love a single male to get dirty with her (human or canine)!
Are you an active person/family looking for an awesome companion? Look no further, Hope is it! Email her foster mom about her today, she won't last long!

Bella's name suits her. She truly is a beautiful female sable German Shepherd Dog. Bella will need an owner with German Shepherd experience as she has some trust issues and is only 1 year old.
Bella seems eager to please and knows her basic commands; Come, Sit, Down, Leave It and she is quite well behaved once leadership is established.
I believe that Bella will make someone a loyal, affectionate companion.
Bella is very good with my other 2 female GSD's. She is very playful and not overly aggressive. Bella is not food or dog aggressive. She is good with my cats although she would like them to play more.
Keep an eye on her, I will update her bio weekly.
Bella is spayed, up to date on shots and crate trained. She will be micro chipped soon.

Reintroducing Skylar:
Skylar (also known as Sky Sky) is approximately 3 years old. She is female sable German Shepherd Dog who was pulled from a local animal shelter. Skylar is a very smart, loving, beautiful girl whose foster family loves her very very much.
Skylar loves to be with her people, but she also needs the companionship of her pack. Skylar gets along very well with all her fur siblings - she in particular loves to play with her foster brother Banjo, but she is selective of her fur friends outside of her pack.
Skylar is not very fond of cats, so no cat friends for this girl. She REALLY likes children and we have seen nothing, but gentleness.
Skylar's foster family is looking for a forever home for her that has GSD experience, at least one other dog, preferably a male, and a fenced in yard with lots of room to run (she runs like a gazelle).
Skylar is spayed, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, on heartworm preventative, micro chipped and crate trained.

"Darcy owes her life, medical care and special transport arrangements to the Moncures! Darcy and BrightStar are forever grateful!"
Molly and Peter Moncure
Platimun level Guardian Angels |
 |
Please meet Darcy Mae. We received an email on March 25, 2008 that there was a beautiful, friendly female German Shepherd Dog in a shelter in GA, with a deeply embedded collar who was slated to be euthanized the next day. Thanks to a handful of loving people, Darcy is safe!!
Darcy wishes to thank her initial angels, Deanna, the kind lady her pulled her and begged for rescue help, and Molly of Southern Cross German Shepherd Rescue who took her to the vet and is caring for her until she is ready to travel to New York.
Molly advised BrightStar of the following information:
Darcy is skin and bones, but you can't tell it from the photos, because she is a plush coat! She weighs 58 lbs and is HW Negative. She is going into heat, but is in no shape for a spay at this time. The collar that was embedded yesterday had been pulled out before the shelter released her - the wound sits right over her thyroid and trachea, so it cannot be surgically cleaned and repaired (we are getting a second opinion on that on Monday to be certain) - the Vet felt that the wound would need to be left open and would take about two months to heal. She is on Tramadol for pain and Cephalexin for infection and she will need a special antibiotic cream for the open wound.
Darcy is very sweet and so appreciative - she was very sleepy when I left her at the vet, but still wanted to wag her tail. I am not a breeder, but I think she is a pretty well bred girl - deep red pigment to her color, gorgeous tail set, nice legs - and a gorgeous face. She is somewhere between 3 - 4 years old - no tartar on her teeth - but the front incisors are fairly well worn. She has been bred a lot and her two foremost nipples are very enlarged. She also has old wound spots on her feet.
Darcy needs Guardian Angels to help with her recovery!
04/22/08 Update: Darcy needed to have a part of her neck surgically excised today - she has been at the vet clinic in Gerogia receiving daily wound cleaning and antibiotics since her pull from the shelter a few weeks ago, but the wound is so deep the infection kept recurring. So today the vets decided to excise the necrotic tissue and suture the wound closed. Say some big prayers for her. Darcy was also spayed while she was under so that hopefully she will not have to endure another surgery.
We hope to have updated pictures soon.
04/28/08 Update: The report for the vet hospital in GA is excellent!! Darcy's is scheduled to have her spay and neck wound sutures removed in the next few days and she will be cleared for transport!
The people caring for Darcy at the vet hospital wanted us to know that Darcy is very friendly and becoming quite active. They are estimating her age closer to 2 years old.
Darcy will need to wear a harness, as opposed to a collar, for the rest of her life, because of the significant/extensive scar tissue in her neck region.
We will update once we have a firm arrival date, but Darcy will be a NYS girl very soon!
