"Adoption from the Perspective of a 9 Year Old Boy"

Dear Mrs. Rose,
Thank you so much for Watson. I played tuggy with him today. He loves playing tuggy especially with me.
Sometimes I think Watson will freeze himself because when the bus comes he always sits down in the
snow. I feel sad for him because when I get on the bus his tail stopped wagging because I had to stop
playing stick with him. At school I miss him so I created a list of ten reasons to own Watson:
1. He's always ready to play (except for when he's sleeping)
2. He's lovable
3. He always makes you smile
4. His tail never stops wagging
5. He's not aggressive
6. He loves to be your blanket
7. He's always curious and ready for adventure
8. He's easy to train
9. He lets you know when you didn't play with him enough
10. He always follows you
At school I'm getting a calligraphy set. I think I will write that list down.
When we first got Watson I went on mini adventures with Watson. We would run to one place in the yard (like the flowers) and Watson would sniff around.
I love having Watson!
Love, Kendall

BrightStar is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based out of Rochester, NY dedicated to saving the lives of German Shepherd Dogs. Every year BrightStar helps hundreds of homeless German Shepherds find new forever homes. Visit our "How Are We Doing" page for our exact placement statistics. BrightStar is a dedicated team of experienced owners, handlers, trainers and breed fanciers that have one common goal....

SAVING THE LIVES OF GERMAN SHEPHERD DOGS

When BrightStar accepts a German Shepherd Dog (GSD) into our rescue, we make a commitment to that dog to make sure that it will be happy and healthy for the rest of its long life. In placing our dogs with their new forever families, we have a lengthy Adoption Process to assure the quality and commitment of each home. Before adoption, most of our dogs live in foster homes where they live as part of the family, being socialized, trained, loved and spoiled until adoption. Our dedicated team of volunteers is what makes us able to save so many lives. New Team Members, Sponsors, and Foster Families are always needed and VERY WELCOMED! Our dogs receive the best of Veterinary Care; including spaying and neutering. The adoption fee for a dog is $325.

We receive our GSDs mostly from animal shelters, other rescue organizations, breeders and individuals that for one reason or another cannot keep their dogs. Visit our Where Do We Get our Dogs page for more information.

According to the US Humane Society, every year between six and eight million, dogs and cats enter U.S. shelters; three to four million of these animals are euthanized because there are not enough homes for them. Twenty-five percent of all the animals entering shelters are purebreds. That is approximately 450,000 purebred dogs in our shelters EVERY YEAR. According to AKC 2003 registrations, German Shepherds are the 4th most popular breed in the US. In 2003, 43,950 or 4.8% of all AKC registered dogs were German Shepherds. Many of the 450,000 dogs in our US shelters every year are purebred GERMAN SHEPHERDS...and thousands do not make it out of the shelter alive!
